After many years of using Esperanto, and now feeling that I am too old to do it right any more, I thought I would give Interlingua a try. I always used Esperanto because I knew that most people preferred it to Interlingua, but I always personally liked the idea of Interlingua. (A love of Latin attracted me to it.) I have come to believe that it is a better solution to the world's language problems than Esperanto is.

One of the criticisms I read in Esperanto about Interlingua was that its vocabulary is not as international as Esperanto. While Interlingua relies more on Romance languages for its vocabulary, Esperanto mixes some Germanic word roots in. I feel Interlingua's vocabulary is more international, because its word roots are used more often in scientific and technical terms. Scientific and technical terms are already the closest thing the world has to an international language, since they have been borrowed by so many other languages. Interlingua retains the international spelling of these terms better than Esperanto does. Compare:
